About this project
This project was developed for a tech-savvy plumber in the USA who wanted a faster, more accurate way to align holes between two opposite walls for plumbing installations. The challenge was to eliminate the need for repeated measurements while ensuring perfect alignment every time.
What We Did:
- Problem Understanding & Concept Design: We began by analyzing the client’s workflow and identified the need for a precise hole alignment tool that could mark the exact opposite position on the counter wall after drilling the first hole.
- Innovative Mechanism: Inspired by a latch chuck mechanism, we designed a quick-fit system that allows the device to open and close easily while fitting securely into pipes of various diameters.
- Laser-Based Accuracy: Once inserted into the first hole, the device projects a laser beam, marking the exact center point on the opposite wall – enabling plumbers to achieve perfect alignment without manual measurements.
- Prototype Development: We created and tested a functional prototype, confirming the device’s accuracy, ease of use, and adaptability across different pipe sizes.
- Next Phase – Market Introduction: After successful field testing, the client decided to launch the product commercially. We are currently working on design optimization for cost reduction and DFM (Design for Manufacturing) to make it ready for injection molding and large-scale production.
