Rotating Wheel Center Caps: From Custom Idea to a Scalable Automotive Brand

A wheel cap that keeps a logo upright at any speed
Our client, a UK-based automotive aftermarket company, wanted to build a rotating wheel center cap system that displays branding upright no matter how the wheel is turning, across multiple vehicle models.
What started as a custom idea evolved into a full product development and startup launch, covering mechanical design, tooling, supply chain, packaging, and e-commerce assets.
What made this project hard
Rotating mechanism reliability
Precision bearings integrated into a compact structure that functions smoothly during wheel motion.
Universal compatibility
A snap-fit system compatible across different car models, requiring six different diameter variants.
Customization durability
Replaceable logo plates that stay visually premium and durable outdoors, solved with acrylic plates and resin dome finishes.
Custom packaging
Sourcing non-standard red interior packaging, instead of typical brown or white, while keeping brand identity intact.
From custom idea to a scalable product line
Four stages, one team, no handoffs between them.
Mechanical & Industrial Design
Snap-fit mounting and bearing integration engineered for smooth rotation.
On-Vehicle Prototyping
SLA 3D-printed prototypes tested on actual vehicles.
Tooling for Six Variants
Injection molds developed across six diameter sizes.
Packaging & Logistics
Custom packaging designed and DDP international shipping managed.
A mechanism engineered to rotate smoothly under load
Mechanical and industrial design work centered on the snap-fit mounting and bearing integration, so the cap would rotate smoothly during real wheel motion rather than binding or rattling.

SLA prototypes tested on real vehicles
SLA 3D-printed prototypes were tested on actual vehicles, not just on the bench, to validate fit and rotation under real driving conditions.
Tooling for six diameter variants
Tooling was developed across six injection molds to cover different diameter sizes, giving the product universal compatibility across multiple vehicle models.
Supply chain management covered precision bearings, magnets, and hardware sourcing for the interchangeable logo plate system.

Custom packaging and e-commerce launch assets
Custom packaging with a paper tray structure was designed around non-standard red interior packaging, and photorealistic renders were produced for e-commerce support.
Fully assembled products were shipped DDP internationally to the client.
What shipped
"Strong traction in the UK market, with early discussions toward a Volkswagen collaboration."
