Hole Pointer Device

About this project
A USA plumber needed a faster, more accurate way to align holes drilled through two opposite walls, without repeated manual measurement. We built a device that solves this in one step.
What we did
Problem-driven concept: We analyzed the client’s real workflow and identified the need for a tool that could mark the exact opposite position on a counter wall after the first hole was drilled.
Latch-inspired mechanism: Inspired by a latch chuck mechanism, we designed a quick-fit system that opens and closes easily while fitting securely into pipes of varying diameters.
Laser-based accuracy: Once inserted into the first hole, the device projects a laser beam that marks the exact center point on the opposite wall, removing manual measurement entirely.
Field-tested prototype: A functional prototype confirmed accuracy, ease of use, and adaptability across different pipe sizes.
After successful field testing, the client moved to commercialize the product. We are now optimizing the design for cost reduction and DFM ahead of injection molding and large-scale production.
