Smart Heart and Lung Transport System: Commercial Organ Boxes with App-Based Temperature Monitoring

Heart and Lung Transport System: From Prototype to Commercial Product

After strong feedback and demand from doctors, our organ transport client wanted dedicated boxes for different organs, each with its own transport, positioning and environmental needs. The goal was a commercial, air-travel-friendly system that could be checked in at airports and look elegant and professional rather than like a medical prototype.

CADLETE Designs redesigned the enclosure using sheet metal fabrication, simplifying it while keeping it strong. We replaced the earlier off-the-shelf modules with a custom integrated PCB, added an integrated display, and designed a removable battery pack that can be separated for airport security and check-in.

The lung box uses a cushioned base and a spring-assisted adjustable upper plate that gently holds the lung in place. The heart box uses a stitched, flexible membrane support with a toggle-latch mechanism for quick loading. Both protect the PCB, sensors and wiring against rough airport handling, and include trolley handles, wheels and a side display.

We also built the firmware and a mobile app for real-time temperature monitoring, alerts, alarms and trip-wise data logging. The system is now generating strong interest, including from European medical professionals, and CADLETE is producing an active 20-unit order.
